California Faces Serious Issues of Justice, Fairness & Equity in Education
On May 17, 2007, distinguished state and national leaders along with over 800 students and teachers will join with the Center for Youth Citizenship (CYC) to bring citizenship education alive through film, arts, and community dialogue.

CYC Celebrates Law Day
May 1, 2007...The Center for Youth Citizenship is pleased to commemorate Law Day as we kick-off a month celebrating character and good citizenship with this year's theme of Justice, Fairness and Equity.

Orinda Intermediate School Recognized as a 2007 California School of Character
On April 11, 2007, Orinda Intermediate School, in Orinda Union Elementary School District, was recognized as a 2007 California School of Character. The award was presented during an all-school assembly where Orinda was also recognized by the Mayor for their Others First community service program.

Sacramento Area Youth to Represent California at National Competition - Elk Grove High School Mock Trial Team Advances to National Competition
Sacramento, CA - On March 23-25, 2007, Elk Grove High School's students competed against 34 teams throughout California to become the statewide winner of the 2007 Mock Trial Competition.

CYC Recognizes SCOE for Supporting Character Education

At the March 14, 2007, meeting of the Sacramento County Board of Education, directors from the Center for Youth Citizenship (CYC), presented the County Office with a commemorative plaque recognizing SCOE as a strong supporter of schools that demonstrate an outstanding character education initiative that yields positive results in student behavior, school climate, and academic performance.

EGUSD Superintendent Steven Ladd Recognized Prairie Elementary as a 2007 California School of Character
On March 15, 2007, Prairie Elementary, in Elk Grove Unified School District,
was recognized as a 2007 California School of Character. EGUSD Superintendent Steven Ladd presented the award during the school’s multi-cultural faire. Watch a Video Clip!

State Superintendent of Public Instruction Jack O’Connell Recognized Charles Mack Elementary as a California School of Character

On March 1, 2007, Charles Mack Elementary, in Elk Grove Unified School District, was recognized as a 2007 California School of Character. State Superintendent of Public Instruction Jack O’Connell presented the award during a student assembly. Watch a Video Clip!

California School of Character Award to be Presented to Prairie Elementary
A formal announcement and presentation will be made March 15, 2007 during their multi-cultural fair. Activities begin at 5:30pm at Prairie Elementary (5251 Valley Hi Drive in Sacramento). All interested parties are welcome to attend.

State Superintendent of Public Instruction Jack O’Connell to Present CSOC Award to Charles Mack Elementary on March 1, 2007 at 9:30am
A formal announcement and presentation will be made on March 1, 2007 at 9:30am at Charles Mack Elementary (4701 Brookfield Dr. in Sacramento), during their character education assembly. State Superintendent of Public Instruction Jack O’Connell is planning to present the award to Charles Mack on March 1st at the school site. All interested parties are welcome to attend.
