Professional Development Modules

Fee for CYC Professional Development Sessions is a daily rate of $2000/half-day or $4000/day plus travel costs (if applicable).

Trainings can be tailored to a specific time availability.

Leadership Development Sessions

Positive Leadership: Working with Different Personalities
Learn the importance of positivity and how to re-frame negative language with positive words and phrases, as well as an understanding of the connection between teaching character and modeling positive leadership. This session also reviews the stages of development and personality styles, examining how this affects how we work with peers.

Discovering Your Staff’s DNA: Working with Generational Differences
Participants will gain a greater understanding of the expectations, values and assumptions of different generations of educators or new versus experienced educators, while learning to maximize their effectiveness as a team of educators through their different viewpoints, approaches and backgrounds.
They will be encouraged to proactively seek support and input from others to increase their effectiveness.

School Climate & Culture Sessions

Survive or Thrive?
Do you have a growth or a fixed mindset? Learn how adopting a growth mindset can help you thrive this year.
Participants will gain 5 strategies for thriving, including: understanding balance in life, leading out of rest, and identifing things that drain their tank and ways to fill it. Lastly, participants will determine which opportunity to succeed at thriving will work for them.

Building Respectful Relationships and Collaboration through Effective Communication
This module examines elements that contribute to school site culture and the skills and strategies to address one of them: effective communication. Participants will gain an understanding of the tremendous power of listening and will explore how their own communication style and skills can impact character, strengthen agreements, enable constructive conflict resolution, and further collaboration at their own school sites.

The Nuts and Bolts of Implementing Conflict Resolution at your School Site
Learn the nuts and bolts of implementing a successful school-based conflict education program. Share and dialogue about results that work and develop a plan to help identify new student leaders and training options designed to prepare youth to be ambassadors on school campus.

The Context of our Character: Refocusing the Over-Indulged Child
Participants will gain understanding of the characteristics of the over-indulged child and resulting behaviors/behavior patterns, as well as understanding of the concepts of “setting limits” and consequences as a character-based approach to discipline. They will also gain insight into the strengths and weaknesses of their own discipline tendencies.

Curriculum & Instruction Sessions

Reading Takes Character ~ Curriculum Connections
Participants will be introduced to the Reading Takes Character ~ Curriculum Connections, learn how the Six Core Character Traits fit with the Open Court or Houghton Mifflin Reading Program, and learn additional methods for integrating character into their classroom.

Plan & Structure Sessions

Same-Page Dialogues: Strategies for Collaboration
Character-based approaches call for school staffs to work differently, with an emphasis on getting agreement on vision and strategies. In this session, participants will work through a model for initiating “same page dialogues.” With lessons and approaches borrowed from business, this session will help participants begin to identify an action plan for moving forward, past the things that often get in the way of change and reform.


CYC Trainers

Tim Dakin, M.A., MFT
Tim Dakin is a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in private practice in Fair Oaks. He is a speaker on marriage and family issues and leadership dynamics. He has led seminars throughout California, Colorado, Washington and Hawaii.

Kenneth Hawkins
Kenneth Hawkins is widely recognized as a leader and innovator in conflict resolution, organizational development, diversity management and building teams for higher performance. For 25 years, he has worked with hundreds of municipalities, businesses and agencies to help them achieve maximum effectiveness.

Tyrone Weaver
Tyrone Weaver, currently a school counselor at Samuel Jackman Middle School, has been involved in the Reaching Resolution Partnership since his ten years at Samuel Jackman. Mr. Weaver has as masters in Counselor Education with three specialization areas: community counseling and marriage and family therapy. Mr. Weaver has been a leading trainer for CYC’s Youth Action Leadership Camp, Reaching Resolution and other CYC trainings for students/staff leadership development.
