Volunteer Judge Registration

Download Registration pdf

We have an urgent need for additional judges in Mock Trial (Saturday rounds) and Moot Court (all rounds, beginning Monday).  If you are not already signed up to participate, please consider joining us today.  If you are signed up, please invite a colleague to join you!

LawWorks is a model school and legal community partnership providing schools and communities with service, leadership, moot court, mock trial, and youth court activities that increase youth understanding of the law and our judicial system. Creating a realistic representation of the courtroom environment where students can apply their critical thinking, public speaking, analysis, and organization skills is essential to the success of LawWorks.

In order to provide this setting, CYC hopes to provide experienced legal representatives whose presence will foster a professional atmosphere. Currently, legal professionals are needed to serve as Volunteer Judges (Presiding and Scoring) for approximately 3–9 hours during the week of January 25–30, 2010.

Volunteer Presiding Judges are needed to oversee GDS Competition rounds, while Scoring Judges are needed to determine how effectively the teams have prepared and presented their legal arguments. All Volunteer Judges will be provided with the necessary instructions and materials. In addition, a Volunteer Training Session will be held on January 12, 2010 to provide a more in-depth overview of the GDS Competition rules and procedures and the roles and responsibilities of Presiding and Scoring Judges.

Volunteer Judges are currently needed for the Moot Court and Mock Trial events of the GDS Competition. If interested in volunteering, please fill out and submit the following registration form online (or download the pdf) and a CYC staff member will contact you shortly.

Moot Court

Moot Court is an appellate level proceeding in which participating youth prepare and argue a topical case matter before a panel of three judges that evaluates the students on the quality and persuasiveness of their legal reasoning and presentation, as well as their unscripted responses to spontaneous questions from the bench.
