Youth Court

| Youth Court is
provided in partnership with the Center for Youth Citizenship,
Superior Court of California, County of Sacramento, the Probation
Department of the County of Sacramento, as well as the County
of Sacramento, Offices of the District Attorney and Public
Defender. |

Youth Court provides an alternative that is
designed to redirect juvenile offenders and prevent them from becoming
entangled in the criminal justice system while also providing additional
youth with a valuable education and service program.
This bi-monthly court service program provide students with the
opportunity to participate in required court functions, including
serving as District Attorneys, Public Defenders, jurors, bailiffs,
court clerks, and case managers.

Outcomes and benefits of Youth Court include:
Participants gain a better understanding of the court system
and awareness of the everyday problems that youth face today.
Participants develop a more comprehensive understanding
of the impact that youth have on each other, their schools,
and the community.
Participants have the opportunity to work in collaboration
with Legal Advisors to review and analyze complex and confidential
case information.
Students have the opportunity to step outside of the classroom
and into the “real-world” to practice and showcase
their research, critical thinking and presentation skills. |

Youth Court is held bi-monthly on Thursdays at the Juvenile
Courthouse
from 6:00 pm – 9:00 pm.
