The CPCE Approach

Plan and Structure

It is important to take time to plan how to best create a program that will support the needs of the school and that will be sustainable even through staffing changes. Free to Learn encourages the use of a Leadership Team (which may be the same as the School Site Council). Planning should include how to integrate character education with existing school and district programs and curriculum, as well as create specific goals and objectives for the character education program to address.

Character Education School Site Plan Component

Character Education – ________ is a Free to Learn project school and integrates character education school-wide; through our structure, climate, curriculum, assessment, leadership development, and parent/community involvement.

We teach and model six core character traits: Caring, Giving & Service; Justice & Fairness; Leadership, Initiative & Teamwork; Respect; Responsibility; and Trustworthiness

Reading Takes Character lessons correlate directly with the Open Court Reading lessons and are used daily. The six core character traits are reinforced in the classroom with posters, bookmarks, pencils, and a citizenship report card.
