About the CPCE
Partners
Center
for Youth Citizenship
Founded in 1984, the Center for Youth Citizenship
(CYC) is a nonprofit 501 (c)(3) organization dedicated to preparing
personally responsible and community-minded youth. CYC believes
schools and communities must teach young citizens the knowledge,
skills and attitudes needed for effective lifelong participation.
The Center offers high quality and cost effective program models
for Kindergarten through 12th grade students and schools that include:
• standards-based materials and resources for classroom instruction;
and
• innovative, high quality training for teachers, administrators,
school staff and schools’ community partners through regional
and on-site training in a variety of content areas.
CYC promotes school, business and community partnerships as a means
to rekindle and sustain a commitment to individual initiative complemented
by dedication to community service, to preserve our democratic traditions,
and expand youth leadership for a highly diverse and changing world.
Sacramento
County Office of Education
The Sacramento County Office of Education (SCOE)
is one of 58 county offices located throughout the state. The 700
full-time and over 2,500 part-time staff of SCOE work year-round
providing services which complement and supplement those offered
by public school districts in the County of Sacramento. Over 228,000
students in grades kindergarten through 12 are served by public
schools in Sacramento County.
SCOE plays a leadership role in the delivery of quality education
to the students in Sacramento County. SCOE directly educates more
than 30,000 children and adults, and provides support services to
over 228,000 students in 16 school districts. In addition, SCOE
is considered a leader of the Capital Service Region, a 10-county
area consisting of Alpine, Colusa, El Dorado, Nevada, Placer, Sacramento,
Sierra, Sutter, Yolo and Yuba Counties. Many SCOE services are available
to schools, districts and other county offices of education within
the Capital Service Region.
Reading
First California Technical Assistance Center / Reading Lions Center
The C-TAC/RLC coordinates the Reading First Program. Reading First
is a national initiative, established under the federal No Child
Left Behind Act. Specifically, Reading First was authorized by Title
I, Part B, Subpart I of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act,
as amended by the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001. California was
approved on August 23, 2002, to receive approximately $900 million,
over a six-year period, to improve K-3 classroom instruction in
reading provided that “substantial progress” is made
toward the goal that by the end of third grade, all students are
grade level proficient readers in English.
