About the CPCE

Overview

CPCE is a partnership dedicated to assisting schools in creating a learning centered culture where students and staff are inspired, committed and empowered to achieve. The Partnership is guided by the Center for Youth Citizenship in cooperation with the Sacramento County Office of Education and Reading Lions Center and is supported by leaders from the business, education and legal communities. CPCE implements K-12 school projects, sponsors an annual statewide character education conference to convene interested parties, and oversees the dissemination of key resources and research. A current priority is blending CPCE’s effort with the work of California Reading First. CPCE brings valuable knowledge and experience to the table, having previously developed the character education K-8 school models for California (as a USDE Partnerships in Character Education Grantee) from 1995-1999.

To help coordinate and lend support to CPCE’s projects, a Statewide Advisory Committee composed of members representing over 25 agencies, companies, and governmental offices in California meets monthly. This group of professionals is fundamental to the implementation of CPCE’s activities.
