Thoughts From Attendees

The event was outstanding last night. Coach Carter is quite a dynamic speaker and relates so well to the students. We were very pleased to have many students and teachers from our district attend. - School Board Member

Thanks again for all your support and planning for last night’s event. My team found it to be very inspirational. - Vice Principal
What an amazing evening! They said it couldn’t be done, but they were wrong; The Crest Theatre CYC Highest Office event can get better and better each year. You all did a spectacular job on this event down to the last details. It’s apparent that there was an extraordinary amount of teamwork behind it all. If there were any hiccups whatsoever, they were invisible to the guests last night. I am proud to be associated with such a great group of people and such
an outstanding organization.

All the way to the parking lot teachers, kids and board members were bursting with energy, full of compliments about various aspects of the evening.

Thank you for another fabulous evening; it was very powerful, inspiring and tremendous to see and hear so many young people there too.

Thanks to all of you for the important work you do and for doing it with such strong Character. - Character Mentor

Thank you so very much for a wonderful evening. Students, parents, and the teachers really enjoyed your event with Coach Carter. It was so “positive and fun”! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! p.s. Your staff was so helpful and professional! Great job all around... - Attendee
Thank you. I cannot begin to describe the effect that this night had on so many of our students. It was a stunning combination of energy, motivation, direction, style, and class. Thank you for including my school. -Educator
Thanks again for the invitation last night. I got a lot out of it and think (and hope) my kids did too. - Community Member/Parent
I just wanted to belatedly congratulate the CYC staff and board members who worked on the May 11 Highest Office event. Having attended all three, I really thought this one hit it out of the park. The students truly connected w/ Coach Carter and his message reflected perfectly the mission of CYC. I was very proud to be affiliated with the Center that night. - CYC Board Member
I just wanted to say congratulations and a job well done on last night’s presentation! You all did a fabulous job and last night gave me the inspiration to continue with enthusiasm for the remainder of this year and to start the bigger and better planning for next year.

As you are well aware, there have been obstacles here to getting the program running to the best of it’s ability, however, last night renewed the validation that I am doing the right thing for the students here, even through it often feels like I am doing it alone, but then again, all it takes is one person to make a difference!

So, thank you again for a wonderful evening! - Elementary School Staff Attendee
It was one of those memorable events in my lifetime that I will never forget. From the moment Coach Carter came to the pre-event reception, his radiance and kindness was exemplary. Young people, and adults, asked for his autograph and he most graciously gave it to them.

At the Crest Theatre his presentation to the over 700 students and 200 adults was absolutely fabulous. He is truly a “professional” who didn’t use one note in getting his message to the young people in the audience. It wasn’t just an ordinary speech – he moved on the stage and had students participate in getting his message to them. There wasn’t a moment that he didn’t have everyone in the palm of his hand.

The film clips from the movie “Coach Carter” and the conversation between Ken Carter and the Moderator, Jennifer Smith of Channel News 10, brought the message of the evening that young people must rely on more than sports and athletic ability for their future.

Another highlight of the evening was Dana Howard, News 10, who acted as Master of Ceremonies. He was able to get every school there to introduce themselves in some way. It was a great way to start the evening.

Overall, this event was the best program presented in the series so far. The Celebration of Leadership, Community, and Character was very professional, exciting, fun, friendly, inspiring, motivational, and the message “Highest Office: Citizen” was delivered to everyone who attended in a clear and inspirational manner. - Advisory Committee Member

I would like to thank you for the outstanding program that your staff put together at the Crest Theatre, presenting Coach Carter. For the third year in a row, our school took Student Council representatives to your event. Each time our team came away with renewed commitment to the concepts and ideals of character education, as well as appreciation for the value of youth. If one of your goals has been to reinforce the strength model of individual growth and development, consider that goal achieved!

Two years ago, Johnson was one of very few elementary schools with students at your event. Last year, we noticed an increase in elementary aged student participation. This year, there was a significant representation of 5th and 6th grade students in the audience. I understand that the program has been geared toward high school students. However, the messages presentated came through loud and clear to our youth, especially this year.

On the way to the Crest, our students were talking about Coach Carter. They had seen the movie and were very familiar with the story. Meeting him, shaking his hand, then listening to his dynamic speech filled our children with hope, appreciation for working hard and maintaining a commitment to excellence. Our student council representatives returned to school and shared the message with their peers and teachers.

Were it not for all of the hard work of your team, none of this would be possible. Once again, thank you for all that you do for youth. - Elementary School Outreach Consultant
