With Liberty & Justice for All
2004 - Equity, Justice & Character
April 22, 2004 - Good citizens of all ages came
together at the Crest Theatre in Sacramento to celebrate the 50th
anniversary of the Brown v. Board of Education decision. This BIG
SCREEN Premiere, featured highlights of the Emmy Award Winning film
starring Sidney Poitier and Burt Lancaster, “Separate but
Equal” and conversations regarding the historic decision and
its modern day implications.
Every student of American History has heard the powerful story
of Brown v. Board of Education. It was the landmark decision overturning
the longstanding doctrine of “Separate but Equal” and
ending segregation in schools. No longer would children be separated
by their color to learn in less than equal conditions. Although
the case was monumental, it was only the beginning of a struggle
and a series of events that continues today. With Liberty &
Justice for All is meant for the celebration of our victories and
the inspiration of our next generation to continue the pursuit of
equity, justice, and character. Our pledge of allegiance promises
our children one nation with liberty and justice for all. We come
together to help fulfill that promise and to rededicate our collective
ideals not only on this important occasion but also in our everyday
actions.
