Building Respectful Relationships and Collaboration Through Effective Communication

Objectives/Outcomes

Increase your understanding of differing values and styles of communication.

Identify your communication values and preferences.

Gain the ability to understand the issues, perceptions, and values that lie at the root of a presenting conflict.

Increase your ability to be an effective listener and your awareness of the importance of listening in our society.

Practice your communication and listening skills by working through conflict scenarios common to your working environment.

What Participants Said

• Thank you for the last exercise. It was reflective and beneficial.

• I liked the listening exercise in which I heard from both parties in a conflict.

• Activities gave meaning to discussion on listening.

• It was a good reminder of approaches and techniques that work. Empathy as a key to understanding.

• I enjoyed the way music was incorporated to work on communication. Excellent!
