About the Center

Biographical Information

Dr. Joseph P. Maloney is the Executive Director of the Center for Youth Citizenship (CYC). With considerable community and education experience, Dr. Maloney helps public, non-profit and private business groups organize, implement and promote their educational programs and services. Dr. Maloney attended two local high schools, Sacramento City College, and received a BA and MA from California State University, Sacramento. Dr. Maloney obtained his Ph.D. in Education Administration from the University of Michigan and is the recipient of the Mott Award for outstanding writing and service in the field of community education.

Joe has been involved with education since 1964. He began his service as a teacher and has held positions as a site and central office administrator for the San Juan Unified School District. Joe was also a consultant and project manager for the California Department of Education and a special consultant for the United States Office of Education. He has also been adjunct staff for several colleges and universities. Dr. Maloney has served as a presenter at numerous statewide conferences for educators and community members. Sacramento has been home for Joe since the late 1950's. He resides in Fair Oaks with his wife Jeanne, has two married children, Leslie and Sean, and (proudly) has four wonderful grandchildren.
